During his two-week residency at Tanzhaus Zürich, Sékou Keita is working on his production Mask, which processes impressions from his life in Switzerland through the language of dances from the West African country of Mali. Another motif is the tree, which is meant to entice people to reflect on their relationship with nature and to rediscover their mental and physical balance. The dancer and choreographer sees the tree as a medium to be able to speak about the connection between environment and culture in a nuanced way. According to Sékou, it carries the soul of humanity, with which we must get in touch again. In addition to movement, Sékou also uses music from his homeland as well as the songs of traditional celebrations.
The work-in-progress sharing will be followed by a short audience discussion.
